Poulnabrone Tomb, Caherconnell, Clare, Ireland
On the burrens near Caherconnell, County Clare, stands the Poulnabrone Tomb. It is one of those things you've just got to see. It's between 3000 and 4000 years old and is the tomb for at least 22 people.
You can see from my
pictures that's it's in the middle of a field of limestone.
Here's the wikipedia article.
By the way, I wouldn't call Caherconnell much of a place!

Passerelle du Palais de Justice, Lyon, France
Directly in front of Lyon's
Palais de Justice is a
foot bridge across the Saône.
Again, there's an amazing
Birds eye view. My
picture shows it on a Saturday afternoon when it was much more crowded.

Palais de Justice, Lyon, France
Lyon's Palais de Justice is known as "24 Columns."
Here's the wikipedia article (translated by Google) and
here's my picture. I couldn't get an angle that would show all 24 columns!
Amazing
Birds eye view.

Saint Jean Cathedral, Lyon, France
At the foot of the hill below
Basilica Notre-Dame de Fourvière is
Saint Jean Cathedral. This was the main church in Lyon until Basilica Notre-Dame de Fourvière was built.
The wikipedia article is

One of the most interesting items in the cathedral is an
astronomical clock that dates to the 14th century.
Windows Live has a great

Fourvière - Saint-Jean Funiculaire, Lyon, France
The easiest way to get up the hill to the
Basilica Notre-Dame de Fourvière is to ride the
Fourvière - Saint-Jean Funiculaire. On the way down, wait until you can stand in the front of the car and you'll have this
view.
Don't miss the
Birds eye view or
this one.
There's a map of the Lyon Metro
here and the wikipedia article is

Roman Theatre, Lyon, France
Just down the hill from
Basilica Notre-Dame de Fourvière is a
Roman theatre. Roman
theatres are semicircular structures.
Amphitheatres are circular.
From
wikipedia:
On the south side of Fourvière are the (partially intact) ruins of a Roman Theatre (15 BC), only rediscovered in the 20th century, and now home to a museum and a series of concerts and operas throughout the summer, and the ruins of vast Roman Baths.

Basilica Notre-Dame de Fourvière, Lyon, France
The mother of my exchange students took me to Lyon for the afternoon. Our first stop was the
Basilica Notre-Dame de Fourvière. It's not obvious in the aerial shot but there's a
huge bluff to the East. Be sure and browse around some in the
Bird's eye views. Unbelieveably, it's even more beautiful in person. The subway station is just to the West across the zebra stripes.

View Larger MapNow I've got a question for you. Look at this
Birds eye. Look closely at the top of the building in the foreground. On the grey rooftop, there's a one-armed cross. Here's my photo of it.

Why?

Be sure and click the map links even if the little screen captures aren't very good. The mapping services are updating their maps all the time.
These are Google Maps or Windows Live Local images of where I've traveled. I created this blog after I gave
up trying to get these added to googlesightseeing.com.
